HRBT 04-28-2007

Went fishing with John and Jim out at the HRBT. Left the Willoughby ramp at 8:00, when we got there the tide was slack, as the outgoing tide picked up and it got a little darker, there were blues, shad and striper on the backside of the pilings. Once the tide was rolling good we started seeing alot of stripers in the light line. Caught alot of fish on chartruese/white and black/white mini mortar clousers. Overall a very good night, got home at about 1:00 am.

Re: HRBT 04-28-2007

Last night was a good one.

I took Jen out, and she got into a bunch of bluefish on the spinning rod.

I got a couple of stripers in the 20-23 inch range.  I haven't been into bluefish in awhile, so it was good to pick up a handful of 1-2lb'ers.  I also got the reminder of why they are refered to as razor tooths.

Give us some details on the min mortar,  blue water chenille?

Re: HRBT 04-28-2007

I use normal cactus chenille for the mini mortar. I use the blue water chenille for 3/0 or bigger. The problem with using the bluewater chenille on the smaller hooks is that the chenille doesn't allow you to have enough hook gap as we found out one evening at the CBBT. If it looks like the chenille is taking up too much of the gap you can cut it down flat and still have an effective pattern. This also will allow the wing of the clouser to lay better on the fly.
